Hope Makers Organization for Woman (HMOW) Conducts Awareness Session to Address Lice Outbreak in Schools

Duhok, March 19, 2025 – In response to the recent lice outbreak in schools, HMOW, in partnership with Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) and funded by Centre de Crise et de Soutien (CDCS), conducted an awareness session on March 19th to equip teachers with essential knowledge on prevention, treatment, and stigma reduction.
The session, attended by 22 teachers from 20 schools across the Duhok district, focused on personal hygiene, identifying and managing lice outbreaks, and ensuring the mental well-being of affected students. Teachers were provided with practical strategies to prevent the spread of lice while fostering a supportive and stigma-free environment for students facing the issue.
As part of its commitment to public health, HMOW distributed 1,000 lice treatment shampoos to help combat the outbreak effectively.
"This initiative highlights the importance of education and swift action in managing public health concerns in schools. By empowering teachers with the right knowledge, we can ensure a healthier learning environment for students," said Dr. Nagham Hassan, the Executive Director of HMOW.
HMOW remains dedicated to supporting communities through health awareness programs and preventative measures to protect children’s well-being.
